Burrows CS-3 Bass MOD

I love the CS-3... It's the compressor that I have had at my hand when I first started playing bass... I love the way it compresses and colors the sound... Especially when slapping... Some may say, it colors the sound and gives too much compression and kills the dynamics of your right hand technique - And also there is the "hiss" -very loud and annoying- when you turn up the "Sustain" knob... Yes I know about all of them, and experienced these "problems" every time I used the pedal... So I went and bought some other compressors like the Black Finger or the Carl Martin Compressor and I ended up with the legendary MarkBass Compressore ! :)

But I have never forgot the sound and the color of the Boss CS-3... It was sitting in a dark place, sadly, upset, forgotten, unused for years and years... So I decided looking for some mods to correct the factory default "errors"

So ended up with this Burrow Electronics CS-3 Bass Mod :

The instructions were simple : Change the electronic parts with the solder! Again a perfect mod and project for a freak like me :)

So I got together, everything !

I removed the electronics from the case :

Carefully soldering within the instructions, This is the final result, Notice the Blue LED? Yeah, So cool, instead of the stock red one :)

So, for testing I made some recordings, as usual, one with the MOD and one without :

Again, and again you are the one(s) to judge the results.. :)

For myself, it was a really successful MOD, since it reduced the hiss when the TONE knob is at full and the SUSTAIN knob is at 3 (or something) - and the ATTACK time is also improved - most of all I can finally include this pedal in my live touring rig again! It has so many memories with me - It's weird feeling but I feel myself safe to have a spare compressor pedal in my rig :) And I must say I LOVE the sound of this compressor!

Let's make a small comparison with the MarkBass Compressore :

You know what I mean, right? I really love the warm sound of the CS-3 - But the Compressore is something very, very distinct - yet professional...
